World’s Tallest Statue – The Statue of Unity

#StatueofUnity: Moment of pride for the nation as our Prime Minister Narendra Modi will pioneer World’s Tallest Statue – The Statue of Unity on 31 October 2018.

The Statue of Unity is an iconic sculpture 182 meters tall, as a eulogy to one of Indian’s foremost statesmen and leaders – Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel.

The Statue of Unity is positioned facing the Narmada Dam, 3.2 km (2.0 mi) away on the river island called Sadhu Bet near Vadodara in Gujarat. It is the world’s tallest statue with a height of 182 metres (597 ft), occupies over 20,000 square meters, and is inundated by a 12 square km artificial lake.
It is constructed with steel framing, reinforced cement concrete and bronze cladding. The statue needed 75000 cubic metres of concrete, 5700 metric tonne steel structure, 18500 tonnes reinforced steel rods, 22500-tonne bronze sheets for construction.
