Life and death are like the two sides of the same coin! But wouldn’t it be great if death just didn’t mean an end? How great it would be if a demise gave life to several others in need!
The day of 19th August was a day that will surely go into the history books of Surat. A sudden death of a man named VILAS JAYRAM GHATAL occurred in Surat. His family decided to donate the heart of the deceased to someone in dire need. The heart donated from Surat New Civil hospital reached Fortis Hospital Mulund- Mumbai, after traveling a whopping distance of 269 KM in 86 minutes and was transplanted into a student named Ravina Sharad Anturekar aged 20 studying BA. Family members of the deceased truly set an example by giving new life to 4 people by donating heart, liver, and kidneys.
A family of another brain dead man Kachrabhai Gangaram More set an exceptional precedent of humanity by choosing to give new life to 6 people by donating the man’s heart, kidneys, liver, and eyes. In a total of 2 days, 2 heart, 4 kidneys, 2 livers and 2 corneas were donated from Surat! It was a flash of pride as the transplantations gifted a new ray of life to many people who had diminished anticipations of surviving!
