Surat Super Sprint Triathlon – 2016

#SakshiMallik, #PVSindhu and #DipaKarmakar and many respected athletes who have put India’s name on the globe. We are thankful to these athletes who brought nation’s interest in sports other than cricket. We are grateful and encourage different kinda sports events. Yesterday there was a triathlon organized in Surat.

Triathlon is a multiple-stage competition involving the completion of three continuous and sequential endurance disciplines. While many variations of the sport exist, triathlon, in its most popular form, involves swimming, cycling, and running in immediate succession over various distances. Athletes who participate in Triathlon are known as Triathletes. They compete for fastest overall course completion time, including timed “transitions” between the individual swim, cycle, and run components.

Surat Super Sprint Triathlon was a first triathlon of Surat surprisingly and it was organized by brand circus events where Ms. Pooja Chaurushi (Ambassador for south Asian triathlon association) was the race director. The event had 3 categories in the race; 1- Individual sprint male, 2- Individual sprint female and 3- Relay sprint. In this event nearly 300 athletes have participated across all categories and distance for the same was 250m swim, 8 km cycle and 2.5 km running. The participants were from Mumbai, Ahmedabad, Vapi and Valsad.

The route started from TGB, Magdalla Circle where the participants had to either participate as individual or as a team of 3, to complete the course. The course consisted of 250 meters of swimming where the participants had to do 5 rounds in the swimming pool of TGB, run to their cycles and do an 8 KM track from TGB, take a U-turn from Dumas Gam Bus Stop and reach VR Surat. From VR Surat’s Festive Park, they had to complete a 2 and a half KM running track, taking a U-turn right before Valentine Multiplex. If the individuals participated as a team, they had to pass on a tracker to their next team partner as they completed their part of the race.

It was a wonderful and thrilling experience to feel this. Winners were rewarded and there was a wave of thrill in the air. Don’t you think we should keep encouraging sports like this more often? Like, comment and share this one with all.
